2007 BMW Z4M Series 360 View
Overview
Raw power unleashed precisely through a 6-speed manual in a sensuous, stunning body; this is the new M Coupe. The BMW Z4 M versions are 2-door, rear wheel drive sports cars with roadster and coupe body styles. The high-performance M Coupe and M Roadster versions of the Z4 boast better handling, thanks to a 330 hp in-line six, engineered to peak at an amazing 7,900 rpm.
With a power to weight ratio of 10:1, this car features the Engine of the Year, with power that takes you from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. The 2007 BMW Z4 M receives a standard tire-pressure monitor and auxiliary audio input, Saddle Brown as a new color for the Extended High Performance Leather offering and the Premium Package now includes a 4-year subscription to BMW Assist. Available in two trims, 3.0i and 3.0si, a high-performance M version is differentiated by engine power. It comes with a basic warranty of 48 months/ 50,000 miles.
Powerful Engine
The M Coupe and M Roadster feature a 3.2-liter inline-6 that puts out 330 horsepower at 7900 rpm and 262 pound-feet of torque at 4900 rpm. The engine differs from BMW’s other 6-cylinder engines with its cast-iron cylinder block and was chosen for its compactness, strength and its unique cylinder head. All M models come with standard six-speed manual transmission with heavy duty clutch. Double Vanos permits the engine to “steplessly” choose valve timing for intake and exhaust camshafts which are controlled in response to temperature, speed and load. Fuel Economy rates at 16/24 (city/highway) with the manual transmission.
Feline and sculpted, stunning looks
The proportions of the Z4 M are taut and look perfect with the long hood, short deck, lots of little details that set it apart from the regular Z4, and the double spoke M wheels. Deeply sculpted body sides are coupled with a blend of convex and concave surfaces. In 2007, the coupe gets better looking better than the roadster with its reworked back end and sloping, shapely roof, rigid metal roof offering a stiffer structure and better feel. A power top is standard for the M version. M Coupe and M Roadster get 225/45R18 front tires and 255/45R18 rear tires, sport suspension, heated outside mirrors, headlight washers, heated glass rear window, twin dual M exhaust tips and xenon headlights Cruise control and the THX audio system make an exit.
Low slung and compact driver-oriented cabin
The two-seater has low-slung seats, with average head and leg room for its class, taller drivers may find it difficult to fit into this small car. Once inside, however, BMW’s style takes over. The M has a snug fit, is well-equipped and fitted with upgraded material. A well spaced dashboard has all controls within easy reach. Despite the decent size of the hatch there isn't much storage space inside the cabin and for those who want more storage possibilities, four tight nets for maps and papers come with the Premium package. Available in brushed aluminum or the optional wood trim, the cockpit looks completely different from the Z3. Comforts and convenience include remote entry with multi-function remote control, including remote trunk release; glove compartment; storage space in doors and behind seats; electric interior trunk release; 6-way manually adjustable front sport seats; and leather-covered multi-functional tilt-telescopic sport steering wheel.
Precision control and agile handling
The Z4 M possesses performance credentials of the highest order and is a great car to drive, for those bold enough to take on this fantastic driving machine. The engines provide steady, robust power. Coupe and roadster, both offer agile handling that is matched by few cars on the road. Interiors are comfortable and well-accommodated. In it’s element in light traffic, the Z4 excels in almost all fronts. The cabin noise has been worked on and is considerably lower than the previous model. The sports package suspension may be a bit stiff for some.
Dynamic Stability Control delivers
The BMW Z4 earned four stars (out of five) in the frontal-impact occupant protection crash tests of the NHTSA. It has a three-star rating for side-impact safety. An advanced stability control system, knee airbags, side-impact airbags, roll-over protection, child-seat anchor points for the passenger seat, and four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard features across trims. To provide improved response to brake-fade, panic stops, hill starts and a wet-weather condition, BMW has the Dynamic Stability Control electronic stability system.
