2007 BMW X3 Series 360 View
Overview
The X3, BMW’s Sport Activity Vehicle, is a downsized version of the X5, and for '07, is rebadged in one trim level as the 3.0si, featuring a new 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine making 260 hp. Enhanced performance, updated exteriors and an intelligent xDrive, unveils the X3 as a ready-to-roll sports-Ute. Whether you are heading on or off road, climbing up mountain tracks or parking ramps, the X3 makes a bold statement, promising a heady mix of sporty fun and utility.

The X3 is a compact five-passenger SAV available with three main option packages: Premium, Sport and Cold Weather. The Premium Package features Nevada leather upholstery, four-way power lumbar support for front seats, automatic dimming rearview mirror, and BMW Assist with Bluetooth. For 2007, it's upgraded by a compass in the rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener and power-folding auto-dimming exterior mirrors. The Premium Package Seat upgrade substitutes comfort seats with lumbar support.

The Sport Package includes an 18-inch wheel upgrade; a full body-color aerodynamic kit with body-color side skirts; sports suspension; all-season tires; Shadowline exterior trim; a sport steering wheel; and eight-way power adjustable front sport seats with two-way manual thigh support; Y-spoke19-inch wheels with mixed-size performance tires.

The Cold Weather Package adds heated front seats, heated rear seats, heated washer jets, a ski bag and Servotronic steering. Other stand-alone options include privacy glass, adaptive HID headlights, rear parking sensors, 18-inch double-spoke alloy wheels, BMW Assist with Bluetooth technology, heated steering wheel; cargo net, a premium sound system and comfort seats with lumbar support.

Basic warranty is 48 months/50,000 miles. The BMW Full Maintenance Program covers all factory-recommended maintenance, as determined by the Service Interval Indicator for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Full Maintenance Program includes items that need replacement due to normal wear and tear, provided wear and tear exceeds BMW specifications.
Powerful straight-six cylinder
The X3 gains from a new 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine that generates 260 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a new six-speed automatic replaces last year's five-speed automatic. The drivetrain is equipped with BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system, Dynamic Stability Control and Hill Descent Control, revised for 2007, directs power and traction to the wheels for sure-footed handling under all weather conditions. One touch of its M Sport Steering wheel and the zippy X3 is ready for action.Fuel economy is an estimated 18/26 mpg city/highway on the 6-speed MT and 19/26 mpg city/highway on the 6-speed automatic with Steptronic.
Characteristic proportions, youthful, fresh looks
The compact five-passenger SUV rides high and minimalist touches such as new bumpers, give it a look all its own. Parked side by side the X3 is the spitting image of big brother BMW X5. The design features a long wheelbase with short overhangs and a sporting arched roofline that highlights the X3's dynamic character; powerful wheel arches and the striking front end also emphasize the X3's boisterous, youthful character. The traditional twin-kidney grille, 17” double spoke alloys/ all season tires, a space saver spare wheel/tire, Halogen fog lamps, rain sensing wind shield wipers, matching door handles and roof rails, take care of detailing. In the rear, a single, double-tipped exhaust exits on the left side.
Generous array of features and equipment
What’s new for the X3? A sunroof and rear glass skylight is standard. Heated rear seats and "comfort" front seats are new options. Make no mistake; the interior is vintage BMW. Fit and finish are luxurious, there’s plenty of room and seats are comfortably bolstered and supportive. A telescopic steering wheel, large analog gauges, premium audio and climate control, fit together in a neat, uncluttered way. The folded rear seat offers 71 cubic feet of stowage in the trunk. A one-piece tailgate allows entry to the fairly roomy cargo area, which can be made larger by flipping forward the rear seatbacks. Convenience includes vehicle and key memory, remote entry, cellular phone capability, 8-way power adjustable front seat with 2 way manual head rest and flat tire warning.
Outstanding agility, typical BMW
Behind the wheel, the X3 feels more like a sporty sedan than a heavy off-roader. BMW's new xDrive, precise steering, a tightly controlled suspension and traction, musters up flawless driving dynamics. Handling is helped by an anti-skid/traction control system. Standard anti-lock brakes have a touchy sensitivity and stopping distances are dead short. If you're looking for a daily workhorse that’s sporty, practical and fun to, this is your vehicle.
Plenty of standard safety features
The X3 features standard four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, Hill Descent Control, Head Protection System, Adaptive Brake Lights, an intelligent safety and information system, day time running lights, Coded Driveaway Protection, crash sensors and a full complement of front, side and side curtain airbags. Torso-protecting side airbags for rear passengers are optional.
