2008 BMW M6 Series

Overview

The BMW M6 with its ultimate power, trendy design and scintillating features has become the owner's pride. Well equipped with master piece technology and unbeatable performance, the quickest machines in the BMW lineup, are available in two body styles-midsize coupe and convertible, both of which have seating for four. These speedsters are equipped with the sophisticated 5.0-liter V10 powerhouse, the most demanding engine within the BMW family and the top performer in every sense. For 2008, the M6 has a very minimal cosmetic changes and it comes with new standard equipment like real-time traffic updates for the navigation system, soft-close doors and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Engine and performance

The M6, which boasts of a terrific 5.0-liter V10 powerhouse that pumps out an amazing 500 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, is a pledge to power and performance. This fast-revving engine forms a perfect match with the optimum gear and final drive ratios, ensuring a perfectly dosed transmission of engine power to the drive wheels at the rear. The sole transmission offering is a seven-speed automatic Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG). The entire power and performance concept behind this engine is derived directly from Motorsport; in the process of developing its maximum output, the V10 power unit revs all the way to 8,250 rpm, reaching engine speeds otherwise only found in a purebred racing car.

The generous space between the front wheels and firewall, the captivating lines and perfect proportions render killer looks to M6. Comfort, Controls & Convenience

Combined with sophistication and pure luxury on the inside, it makes the road ahead a pleasure waiting to unfold. All the luxury features including a navigation system with real-time traffic updates, adaptive xenon headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth wireless capability, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio system, one-touch power windows and seat heaters are standard. Keyless startup, Sirius Satellite Radio, high-definition (HD) AM/FM radio, full leather interior and a head-up display are other options. You then have the choice of red, beige, brown, gray or black leather upholstery.

Driving impressions

The M6 features the new generation of BMW Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). While the first stage of DSC is designed for maximum driving safety, the M Dynamic Mode is appreciated above all by the performance oriented driver. Electronic Damper Control (EDC) offers three control programs, each enabling the driver to set the suspension to the desired mode ranging from sporting and firm to comfortable. It slides past steep, cliff-lined roads, swoops through green valleys and rolls effortlessly around hairpin bends.

The M6 comes loaded with quite a lot of standard safety features such as traction control, stability control, antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (available in coupe only), a rollover protection system (available in convertible only), front and rear parking sensors and more.
